Hell Inside Me

The world is what I see,

But you don't see what I see.

Behind these eyes, behind this skin,

There's a war that lives within.

You paint the sky with shades of gray,

Then ask me why I look away.

You built these walls around my soul,

Then wonder why I can't be whole.

Every time I try to breathe,

Something pulls the air from me.

Every road I take leads back To the past.

In this world, I die again,

Over and over, where do

I begin?

You fuel the fire with your hate and pain,

Then leave me standing in the pouring rain.

I can't get free from the world you made,

I'm screaming underneath the weight.

You try to see the world I see— But all I see

is hell inside of me.

You tell me that the light is there,

But I can't find it anywhere.

You say tomorrow will be new,

But tomorrow looks like you.

Every memory leaves a scar,

Every wound reminds me where we are.

And every time I close my eyes,

I wake up somewhere I already died.

I reach for something I can't hold,

A little warmth inside the cold.

But every hand that pulls me near

Only makes the darkness reappear.

Maybe someday I'll break these chains,

Walk through the ashes,

out of the flames.

Maybe someday these eyes will see A world that doesn't bury me.

But tonight I'm lost beneath the sound,

Of everything that's pulling me down.

And if you ask me what I feel—

It's the place where nothing seems real.

In this world, I die again,

But I won't let this be where it ends.

You fueled the fire with your hate and pain,

But I can learn to breathe again.

I can't erase the world you made,

But I don't have to live afraid.

You may never see what I see—

But this hell doesn't have to be me.

The world is what I see...

But maybe I can change what I see.

Maybe beyond this hell inside,

There's still a reason to survive.
