Young Dustin had a cane pole and a pocket knife
Living out in the country,
loving that wild life
Up at dawn for the hunting,
running down the creek He had his own little boat before he
learned to speak
(oh yeah)
Hit sixteen and bought a beat-up pickup truck
Parked it at Orange Grove School,
testing out his luck
Driving those dirt roads,
radio playing loud
Dustin was the kind of boy to make his mama proud
Oh, Dustin's on the move,
chasing down the line
From the piney woods to the big blue sky
Living life wide open,
everywhere he goes
Following the wind where the river flows
(where the river flows)
Then he packed up for East Texas,
found an oilfield crew
Working hard under the sun,
doing what he had to do
He went to New Mexico,
tracking through the snow
Faced down a wild black bear,
let the story grow
Twenty-five years old,
stepped on a Florida plane
First time flying solo,
leaving all the rain
Walked out on the warm sand,
feeling free and new
Met two southern girls,
and the sky turned bright blue (yes he did)
Just a country boy,
finding his own way
Dustin's out there making stories every single day
