Faded Letters

(hummmm) Boxes stacked beside the kitchen door

Dust settling on the wooden floor

A postcard that you wrote from May

Left right where we threw the keys away

We built a home out of borrowed light

Kept every promise into the night

Now all the quiet settles in

Wondering where

the years begin

Your sweater hangs behind the coat rack still

Winter leans against the windowsill

I listen to the ticking on the wall

Learning how to let the evening fall

I don't regret the miles we ran

We did the best two people can

(ahhhh) Even when the road gave out

We built a home out of borrowed light

Held on as hard as someone might

Now all the quiet settles in

Knowing where

the years begin

Knowing where the years begin (hummmm)
