Your Sight (Psalm 39)

Muzzle on my lips,

Watching every step I take,

Where the wicked walk.

Silent in the dark,

Not a single good word spoke,

Grief grows deep inside.

Fire in my chest,

Quiet thought ignites the flame,

Then the words break free.

Phantoms rush about, Heaping up a transient wealth,

Who will claim it all?

Lord, show me

my end,

Count the days I have to live,

Let me see

time fade.

Days a handbreadth long,

Years like nothing in Your Sight,

We are only breath.

Turn Your gaze away,

Let me smile before I go,

Fading into

dust.

What is left to seek?

Where can earthly wishes turn?

My deep hope is You.

Wash my errors clean,

Keep the mocking fools away,

Save me from my shame.

I kept silent then,

Not a word escaped my mouth,

You have done this thing.

Lift Your strike from me,

Crushed beneath Your Heavy Hand,

Weary of the blow.

Notum fac mihi,

Domine, finem meum, Et numerum dierum

meorum quis est,

Ut sciam quid desit mihi dum tempus fluit.

Ecce mensurabiles posuisti dies meos,

Et substantia mea tamquam nihilum ante te,

Vere universa vanitas omnis homo vivens.

Averte oculos tuos a me,

ut refrigerer, Priusquam abeam et amplius non ero,

In pulverem revertens.

Moth eats up the hoard

When You judge a human sin—

Life a passing breath.

Hear my weeping plea,

Listen to my cry for help,

Stranger, just like them.

Lord, show me my end,

Count the days I have to live,

Let me see time fade.

Years like nothing in Your Sight,
