There once was a chick named Nugget so small,
The cheekiest chick, the best of them all.
He lived in a dog crate,
safe in his bed,
But he'd poke out the gaps with his little head.
He'd see our cat coming and wiggle with glee,
"Come over here, come and play with me!"
He'd stick out his head through the bars of his home,
Never imagining he'd be left all alone.
Oh, Nugget, Nugget, our little mate,
We thought you were safe behind that gate.
You'd play with the cat through the gaps in your cage,
Our cheeky little chick with a heart full of brave.
But a fox came sneaking,
while we weren't aware,
And took our Nugget from his crate over there.
Oh, Nugget, Nugget, we miss you so,
Why did that fox have to come and go?
(oh why
did
he go)
I still see you playing with your feline friend,
Poking your head out around
the bend.
Just a little chick with so much to give,
You made our days brighter just being alive.
We thought your dog crate would keep you all right,
Safe from the foxes that crept in the night.
But now there's a silence where your cheeping would be,
And we wish you were here,
playing happily.
Oh, if only those crate gaps had kept you inside,
If only that fox had just passed you by.
We'd give anything to see you once more,
Little feet scratching across the floor.
Oh, Nugget, Nugget, our little mate,
We wish we could turn back the hands of fate.
You played with the cat,
you were funny and sweet,
Our one-of-a-kind little chick,
so petite. That fox may have taken you far away,
But we'll tell your story every day.
Sleep tight, dear Nugget,
our little sunshine,
You'll always be our Chick Nugget divine. (divine)
