The Girl I’m Becoming

I used to wonder who I’d be,

If I’d ever find my way,

I thought I needed someone else To tell me I was okay.

But somewhere in the growing,

I started seeing clear—

The girl I’m becoming Was already waiting here.

I’m learning how to stand alone,

How to trust the voice inside,

I don’t need someone holding me Just to make me feel alive.

Look at the girl I’m becoming,

She’s stronger than before.

She knows exactly what she wants And she won’t settle anymore.

She doesn’t need a man

To tell her how to shine,

She’ll build her own tomorrow One brave step at a time.

And if someone comes along Who wants to walk beside her,

He’ll love the girl she is And the woman growing inside her.

That’s the girl I’m becoming—

And I’m proud of her tonight.

She won’t shrink herself down

Just to make somebody stay.

She won’t trade her dreams away For someone else’s way.

She’ll laugh a little louder,

She’ll speak when something’s wrong,

And she’ll know that being gentle Doesn’t mean she isn’t strong.

She’s not waiting for rescuing,

She’s not waiting to be found.

She’s learning that her own two feet

Can carry her around.

I don’t need somebody

To complete what’s already whole.

I want someone who sees my heart And never tries to control.

Someone who can cheer me on

When I’m reaching for the sky,

Who loves me for my courage

And doesn’t ask me to hide.

Look at the girl I’m becoming,

She’s finally standing tall.

She knows she doesn’t have to be

The strongest through it all.

She can love somebody deeply Without giving up her dreams,

She can hold somebody’s hand And still be completely free.

And when the right one finds her,

He won’t try to change her light—

He’ll love the girl she is

And the woman in

I don’t know every place I’ll go,
