I stood in front of the mirror again
Looking for something wrong
Everybody says I look just fine So why have I felt this
way so long?
I pull my shirt down one more time Try to make the
pieces fit I look at all the other girls And wonder why
I'm not like them I change my clothes,
then change again Nothing ever feels quite right I tell myself it's
just a moment But it follows me all night I see the
pictures on my phone Of girls who seem to have it all
And suddenly my own reflection Makes me feel a hundred times too
small
And I know that bodies change But it's hard to understand Why
the girl inside the mirror Feels like someone I can't stand
Why can't I see
what others see?!
Why am I so hard on me?!
I'm fighting with the mirror!
And I'm tired of losing sleep!
Trying to look like somebody Who was never meant to be me!
I don't wanna hate my body!
I don't wanna hide my face!
I just wanna feel comfortable Taking up my own space!
Oh-oh-oh, I'm tired of the lies!
Oh-oh-oh, of seeing through their eyes!
I'm more than what the mirror shows!
And that's something I wanna know!
I hear a joke about somebody's size And suddenly I wonder about
mine I laugh along so no one knows How much it hurts
me deep inside
I wish that I could wear that dress Without wondering what they'll
say I wish that I could run and dance Without feeling in
the way And sometimes when my mom says You're beautiful just as
you are I wanna believe her so badly
But believing feels so hard
Maybe I don't need an answer
Maybe I don't need to change
Maybe all these cruel comparisons Are what's causing all this pain I'm
done asking for permission!
To be happy in my skin!
What if I stopped counting flaws
And started counting all the days
My body carried me through laughter
Through the sunshine and the rain?
What if I could see my body
As a home instead of a fight?
What if I didn't have to love it Every single day or
night?
Maybe I can have hard moments
Maybe I can cry sometimes Without believing every thought That comes into
my mind I'm not a number!
I'm not a size!
I'm not the fear behind my eyes!
I'm done fighting with the mirror!
It doesn't get to rule my life!
I don't have to love my reflection Every single day or night!
I'm gonna wear the clothes I love!
I'm gonna dance and sing out loud!
I don't have to look like anyone To deserve to feel proud!
Oh-oh-oh, I'm learning to be kind!
Oh-oh-oh, to this body that is mine!
I'm more than what the mirror shows!
And I'm allowed to take up space!
Tomorrow I might look again
And maybe I'll still have doubts But
I don't have to believe Every
unkind thought I have about myself
