  • The Branches of My Life

    The Branches of My Life

    the old whiskey road

(hmmmm...) Every branch holds a memory,

    Every scar

    has left its line,

Some grew strong and some were broken,

On the branches of my life.

The leaves turn brown and fall away,

    New ones grow another day,

    The streets may change,

the seasons fly, Beneath a different coloured sky.

Through every storm, through every scar,

I've bent sometimes, but not too far,

And like that old oak standing high,

These are the branches of my life.

I've watched the seasons come and go,

Seen winter fade and new leaves grow,

Some names remain carved deep in me,

Like old initials in a tree. (ahhhh...)

I've known thunder, I've known rain,

I've carried both through hurt and pain,

    They took some leaves,

    they broke some limbs,

But still the old oak stands

    again.

I cannot hold each leaf I knew,

Or make the old ones green and new,

But every spring reminds me so,

What falls away makes room to grow.

The leaves turn brown and fall away,

    New ones grow another day,

    The streets may change,

    the seasons fly,

    Beneath a different coloured sky.

Through every storm, through every scar,

I've bent sometimes, but not too far,

And like that old oak standing high,

These are the branches of my life.

I’ve watched new branches reach for light,

Through every storm and longest night,

And when my shadow leaves this ground,

A piece of me will still be found. (ahhhh……)

And when my final leaf lets go,

Another one someday will grow. (hmmmm...)
