Back in eighty-six,
Chernobyl lit the sky,
Some folks say that’s why Dan’s a different kind of guy,
He came into this world with a face you won’t forget,
But he’s never let it bother him,
and he ain’t started yet.
Raised up in Comox,
where the mountains meet the sea,
He’s a Vancouver Island boy,
just as happy as can be,
He don’t need no big city,
don’t need no fancy car,
Just a case of ice-cold beer
and a seat down at the bar.
‘Cause Daniel ain’t leavin’ Comox,
And he sure as hell ain’t leavin’ home!
Forty years old, still living like a king,
With a hockey stick,
a golf club, and a little bit of green!
He’s got cold beer in the fridge,
And a PlayStation glowin’ blue,
If there’s work to be done,
he’s got better things to do!
Yeah, Daniel ain’t leavin’ Comox,
And Comox ain’t gettin’ rid of him too!
Well, his boss called Monday,
said, “Danny, where you been?”
He said, “I’m feeling pretty rough,
think I caught that flu again,” But by ten he hit the
fairway, by noon he’d cracked a beer,
And by three he’d found a reason not to work the rest
of the year. He’s got more excuses than a politician on TV,
And a talent for avoiding responsibility,
He’ll work all day at getting out of working nine to five,
But put him on a hockey rink,
and watch that boy come alive!
‘Cause Daniel ain’t leavin’ Comox,
And he sure as hell ain’t leavin’ home!
Forty years old, still living like a king,
With a hockey stick,
a golf club, and a little bit of green!
He’s got cold beer in the fridge,
And a PlayStation glowin’ blue,
If there’s work to be done,
he’s got better things to do!
Yeah, Daniel ain’t leavin’ Comox,
And Comox ain’t gettin’ rid of him too!
He thinks he’s Wayne Gretzky when he steps out on the ice,
But his knees are getting older and his hands ain’t quite as
nice,
He’ll miss an open net and blame the goalie every time,
Then tell you how he almost made the NHL in his prime.
On the golf course he’s a legend,
at least that’s what he’ll say,
He’s lost a dozen golf balls and he’s only halfway,
He’ll blame it on the weather,
he’ll blame it on his swing,
Then light himself a little joint and forget the whole damn thing.
Now some folks chase a dollar,
some folks chase a dream,
Some spend their whole lives chasing things that ain’t quite
what they seem, But Daniel’s got the mountains,
and the ocean rolling blue,
And a hometown full of people who know just what he’s been
through. He might be a little different,
and he sure ain’t in a race,
But he’s got a heart as big as Comox,
and a smile upon his face,
You can laugh about his lifestyle,
you can tell him he should roam,
But Daniel knows there’s nothing wrong with calling Comox home.
‘CAUSE DANIEL AIN’T LEAVIN’ COMOX,
AND HE SURE AS HELL AIN’T LEAVIN’ HOME!
Forty years old, still living like a king,
With a hockey stick,
a golf club, and a little bit of green!
He’s got cold beer in the fridge,
And a PlayStation glowin’ blue,
If there’s work to be done,
he’s got better things to do!
YEAH, DANIEL AIN’T LEAVIN’ COMOX,
AND COMOX AIN’T GETTIN’ RID OF HIM TOO!
“Hey Danny, you ever think about moving out?”
“Nah.”
“Getting your own place?”
“Nope.”
