  • Hollow Saints Rising

    Hollow Saints Rising

    Farzaneh Modares|1

    Hush now…

    The heavens have gone quiet.

    And something wears their skin.

I watched the angels lose their faces,

Watched them fall without a sound.

    Golden halos turned to ashes,

As their feathers touched the ground.

There's a choir in the distance,

    But the voices aren't alive.

They've been singing since the ending,

Waiting for the last to die.

Oh, don't you hear them calling?

From the other side of time.

    Every prayer becomes a warning,

    Every blessing is a lie.

Take me where the hollow saints go,

    Where the blackened roses grow.

Where the heavens hang like gallows,

And the rivers cease to flow.

I can hear a thousand voices,

But they never speak my name.

If the angels came to save us,

Why do they all look the same?

    There's a figure

    on the hillside,

With a crown of crooked thorns.

    Every time the thunder answers,

    Something ancient is reborn.

It has never asked for mercy,

It has never learned to kneel.

And the silence that surrounds it,

Is the only thing that's real.

    I saw the light…

    It wasn't heaven.

    I heard the bells…

    They weren't for me.

And when the sky began to open,

There was nothing left to see.

    Nothing left to see…

    (screaming build)

Take me where the hollow saints go,

    Where the nameless shadows grow.

Where the stars forget their places,

And the dead refuse to go.

I can hear a thousand voices,

Now they're singing in my veins.

If the angels came to save us…

WHY ARE THEY WEARING OUR FACES? I

used to pray for something to answer.

    Now I pray…

    That it stops.
