What's that for?
Couldn't say.
Then why
keep
it?
Ask me someday!
On the shelves and by the workbench,
In the corners, here and there,
A screw, a clip,
a funny bracket, Little things going spare.
Some look like they might be useful,
Some have seen a better day.
I couldn't tell you what they're for,
So I don't throw them all away.
You never know, you never know,
What tomorrow's gonna throw.
The answer might be sitting here
Before the question even shows.
Maybe useful, maybe not,
Maybe just another spare.
But it's funny what tomorrow needs From the things already there.
Some days I go searching
For a part I didn't know I'd need.
I check the bench,
I check the shelves,
And all the spots between.
Sometimes nothing there can help me,
Sometimes something fits just right.
And a piece I couldn't name before Has earned its keep tonight.
You never know, you never know,
What tomorrow's gonna throw.
The answer might be sitting here
Before the question even shows.
Maybe useful, maybe not,
Maybe just another spare.
But it's funny what tomorrow needs From the things already there.
No, I can't predict the future,
And I won't pretend I can.
Most of this may sit forever,
That's not some ingenious plan.
But once in a while I find a match,
And grin from ear to ear: "See?
I knew I'd need this thing!"
... Though I didn't know last year.
YOU NEVER KNOW, YOU NEVER KNOW,
What tomorrow's gonna throw!
The answer might be sitting here
Before the question even shows!
Maybe useful, maybe not,
Maybe just another spare.
But it's funny what tomorrow needs From the things already there!
What's that one for?
Still don't know. (hahaha)
Then why keep it?
Well...
you never know!
