    Friday nights and fishin line

    Friday nights and fishin line

    Henny Dwight|1

Well, I got an old Ford sitting in the yard,

With a rusty tailgate and a broken door.

Daddy says it’s seen a better day,

    But I wouldn’t trade it for a brand-new four.

Got a fishing pole behind the seat,

And a tackle box that’s seen some years.

There’s a muddy road down by the creek,

Where we spent our summers catching bream.

Give me Friday nights and fishing lines,

A little backroad and a little more time.

A big full moon and a sky full of stars,

An old country song playing in my car.

Give me cool creek water and a warm July,

A front porch swing and a firefly sky.

I don’t need much to make me feel fine,

Just Friday nights and fishing lines.

There’s a little country store at the edge of town,

Where the same old men all gather around.

They talk about the weather and the price of corn,

And the way things were when they were young.

There’s a faded sign on the highway bend,

And a gravel road where the pavement ends.

That’s where my buddies and I would go,

With a full tank of gas and nowhere to go.

Come November, when the mornings freeze,

There’s a little white frost on the fallen leaves.

I’ll pull on my boots before daylight,

And head to the woods while the stars still shine.

There’s a deer trail winding through the pines,

And an old oak tree where I sit sometimes.

You learn a lot when the world gets still,

Just listening to nature on a Carolina hill.

Someday I’ll have a family of my own,

A little white house and a place called home.

I’ll teach my young’uns what my daddy taught me,

    To work hard, stay true,

    and love being free.

And when they’re grown and they’ve moved away,

I’ll still be here at the end of the day.

With an old guitar and a story or two,

Remembering the days when the world was new.

Give me Friday nights and fishing lines,

A little backroad and a little more time.

A big full moon and a sky full of stars,

An old country song playing in my car.

Give me cool creek water and a warm July,

A front porch swing and a firefly sky.

    When I’m old and gray,

    looking back on my life,

I’ll remember those days when the world felt right.

Yeah, that old Ford still runs just fine,

And there’s always time for a fishing line.

    Let the years roll on,

    let the seasons fly,

I’ll be a country boy till the day I die.
