Lord, My Saving Light (Psalm 38)
Lord, hold back Your wrath,
Do not strike me in anger,
Spare Your discipline.
Sharp arrows pierce through,
Your Heavy Hand weighs me down,
Crushing me beneath.
Wrath decays my flesh,
Sin leaves no health in my bones,
Sickness breaks my frame.
Guilt floods over my head,
A weight too heavy to bear,
Sinking in the deep.
Te exspecto, Domine, Clamanti mihi responderis,
Tu, meus Dominus et Deus.
Noli sinere eos exsultare,
Insolenti prohibe gaudio, Cum vestigia mea labuntur.
Ne me derelinquas, Domine,
Noli adstare tam procul,
Hic mane meo lateri.
Festina in auxilium tuum,
Veni, serva me de tenebris,
Domine, lux mea salutaris.
Wounds fester and bleed,
Loathsome sores corrupt my skin,
Folly brings my pain.
Bowed down to the dust,
Brought so very low this day,
Mourning all day long.
Searing pain burns deep,
No health left within my flesh,
Torment fills my back.
Feeble, crushed, and cold,
Groaning from a broken heart,
Anguish roars inside.
Lord, I wait for You,
You will answer when I call,
You, my Lord and God.
Do not let them gloat,
Keep them from their proud delight When my footsteps slip.
Do not leave me,
Lord, Do not stand so far away,
Stay here by my side.
Make haste with Your help,
Come and save me from the dark,
Lord, my Saving Light.
Longings lie laid bare,
Every sigh is known to You,
Nothing stays concealed.
Heart pounds in my chest,
Strength fails and the shadows fall,
Light fades from my eyes.
Companions stay clear, Friends avoid my bleeding wounds,
Neighbors stand afar.
Traps are set by foes,
Lies and ruin fill their speech,
Scheming all day long.
Te exspecto, Domine, Clamanti mihi responderis,
Tu, meus Dominus et Deus.
Noli sinere eos exsultare,
Insolenti prohibe gaudio, Cum vestigia mea labuntur.
Ne me derelinquas, Domine,
Noli adstare tam procul,
Hic mane meo lateri.
Festina in auxilium tuum,
Veni, serva me de tenebris,
Domine, lux mea salutaris.
Deaf, I cannot hear,
Mute, my tongue is bound by grief,
No words left to speak.
Silent in my tracks,
Like a man who cannot hear,
Offering no defense.
Ready now to fall,
Sorrow stands before my path,
Pain lives in my skin.
I confess my fault,
Troubled by the sins I made,
Grieved by all my past.
Foes grow fierce and strong,
Hating me without a cause,
Multitudes arise. Evil pays back good,
False accusers block my path As I seek the right.
Lord, I wait for You,
You will answer when I call,
You, my Lord and God.
Do not let them gloat,
Keep them from their proud delight When my footsteps slip.
Do not leave me,
Lord, Do not stand so far away,
Stay here by my side.
Make haste with Your help,
Come and save me from the dark,
Lord, my Saving Light.
Āmēn…, amen. (mmmmm)
