(hummmm) She walked through those school doors every day,
Trying to smile the hurt away.
They’d whisper words she couldn’t forget,
And make her feel like she wasn’t enough yet.
She’d look in the mirror and wonder why,
She couldn’t see what they saw in her eyes.
But when she got home and the tears would fall,
Mama would hold her through it all.
She’d say, “Don’t listen to what they say,
You’re beautiful in your own
way.”
Mama said, “You’re beautiful anyway,
No matter what those people say.
You don’t have to change a thing,
You’re already everything.
When the world makes you feel small,
Remember, you’re worth it all.
And if you ever forget today,
Just know you’re beautiful anyway.” (ooh,
anyway)
She’d fix her hair and put on a smile,
Hoping maybe it would help for a while.
But sometimes the words would still get through,
And she’d wonder if any of them were true.
Then Mama would sit beside her bed,
And gently remind her what she always said: “You don’t need their
eyes to know who you are,
You’ve always been beautiful just as you are.”
Maybe one day she’ll look back and see,
She was never who they said she’d be.
She was stronger than she knew,
And Mama’s words were always true.
Through every tear and every day,
Mama never looked away.
Mama said, “You’re beautiful anyway,
And I’ll remind you every day.
You don’t have to be someone new,
There’s nothing wrong with you.
Let the hurt become a memory,
And remember what I see: A beautiful girl,
brave and strong,
Who was beautiful
all along.” (yeah)
So when she walks through those school doors now,
She holds her head a little higher somehow.
Because no matter what the world might say,
Mama taught her she was beautiful
anyway. (beautiful anyway...)
