Yeah, look...
Kent man, it's been a journey
What I've gone through deserves a ceremony
They tell you the good parts about how students are brave and
bold
But let me tell you the real story regarding this hell hole (listen)
In fifth grade I got covid
They told me helping was their only motive
But guess what? They left me out to dry
It was almost like they wanted me to just die
In sixth grade I had this big essay due She said no
parents are allowed to help you
My parents thought that was bullshit and did what they could That
teacher was afraid my parents could teach me more than she ever
would That essay,
well it was seven pages deep
My teacher thought I could not write this So she called me
to the stage in front of the whole class Said I was
plagiarizing, tried to make me freeze I had to go home early
that day 'cause I couldn't stop crying Yeah,
tears on my desk,
feeling all that shame Like they only cared about playing their little
power game
I had to put on a fake smile for this crap
Swallowing the anger, turning pain into this rap
Kent,
it has taken quite a toll on my head Counting down every
second till I'm free instead
(yeah,
fake smile, fake smile)
Eighth grade, Trump got elected,
teachers acting wrecked One teacher took it out on us
like a semi truck
Brought up politics every single day in the room
Making it so you couldn't speak against the gloom I had poison
oak, and when I told him what was up He threw it
in the dresser, wouldn't give a damn or stop Started lecturing me
like a college professor Lucky for me,
he got fired, one less oppressor
The school was finally sick and tired
Think that's bad?
I'm just at the tip of the iceberg This next teacher made
life so easy if you were a girl They got to pick
where they sat while the rest had to swirl Being treated like
a spoiled brat on the floor While we sat with no power,
quiet by the door All we could do was sit and cower
in the shade Watching favoritism running rampant on display
The next thing you know,
I was writing with a flow I wrote a great poem about
Kent that I wrote slow
I didn't win because my teacher played her games Brushed my effort
aside, ignoring all my aims
Locked out of credit,
but I kept my spine straight
Refused to let their bitterness dictate my fate
Yeah, turned that disrespect into gasoline Spitting out the realest truths that
they've never seen
I had to put on a fake smile for this crap Swallowing
the anger, turning pain into this rap
Kent, it has taken quite a toll on my head Counting down
every second till I'm free instead
(yeah,
fake smile, fake smile)
That what inspired me to write this rap
Kent, it has taken a toll,
yeah that's facts
But hey, I still got time
Nice thing is I'm not stuck in that hell hole anymore
Walked right out those doors
Fake smile off for good
