So my producer says…
“Bubblegum,
your raps are getting a little fast.”
I said, “Okay.” (hahaha)
And then I made them faster.
Tick-tock, click-clack, back in the booth Got a pocket full of punchlines,
nothing but truth Everybody wanna know how I do what I do
I say, “Practice, baby,
and a little shampoo!” Got a pink little notebook,
pages all bent Full of words that I wrote when I couldn’t
pay rent Now the whole room jumps when I open my mouth
And the engineer’s sweating trying to figure me out!
Don’t need a crown,
don’t need a throne Got a beat,
got a pen, got a microphone Keep your opinions,
I’ll keep my pace Got a hundred syllables looking for space!
Talk faster! (What?) Talk faster! (Huh?)
Everybody says slow down
But I just speed it up!
Talk faster!
(Hey!) Talk faster! (Go!)
If you blink, you might miss it
Better listen close!
Got a ridiculous vocabulary
Never been afraid of extraordinary
Everybody’s busy with the commentary
I’m rewriting the dictionary!
Met a critic, said my music wasn’t serious Told him,
“That’s a fascinating theory,
I’m curious How you got so miserable while looking so delirious Over
somebody having fun?” Mysterious!
Walking contradiction in platform sneakers Sweet little smile and a mouthful of
speakers Never needed permission to be funny and ambitious Think those things
don’t mix? That’s suspicious!
Talk faster! (What?) Talk faster! (Huh?)
Everybody says slow down
But I just speed it up!
Talk faster!
(Hey!) Talk faster! (Go!)
If you blink, you might miss it
Better listen close! I’m unconventional,
intentionally unpredictable Never been particularly interested in the typical Critically meticulous,
rhythmically ridiculous Every little syllable is hitting like a miracle!
Got a pen and a pad and a plan and a pattern
Stack of little phrases that I’m ready to scatter If you’re asking
for a pause, better get yourself a ladder Words keep climbing and
the rhythm gets madder!
Quick with the wit and the flip of the diction Mixing up
fiction with little contradictions Switching positions and shifting the rhythm Everybody in
the booth going, “WHAT IS SHE DOING?!” Breathing.
It’s called breathing.
Automatic, acrobatic, got a habit of a rapid Little verbal mathematics,
every pattern overlapping Never panicking,
I’m managing the madness of the cadence While you’re finding the sentence,
I’m already on the next one!
Pocket full of consonants,
suitcase full of vowels Beat keeps bouncing while the engineer just scowls
Every syllable deliberate, every rhythm getting tighter Walking little tongue-twister with a
pink highlighter! Back to the beginning,
never finished, never timid Got a million little limits and I’m laughing
while I hit ‘em Tell me that I’m finished,
beginning in a minute Got another verse,
but the producer won’t permit it!
Okay…
Maybe that was a little fast.
Nah.
TALK FASTER! (WHAT?) TALK FASTER!
(HUH?) Everybody says slow
down But I just speed it up!
TALK FASTER!
(HEY!) TALK FASTER! (GO!)
If you blink, you might miss it
Better listen close!
Hey, can we do another take?
“No.” (hahaha)
Rude.
