Dark hair,
sky-blue eyes,
and a smile that could stop time.
I thought for sure it was real this time...
guess I was just dreaming again. (mmmmm)
The candlelight danced on the side of his face Making my heartbeat
speed up to a race Those sky-blue eyes were staring right through
Looking past my flaws like a lover would do
He brushed back his dark hair and leaned in real close And
gave me the evening that I wanted most.
He looked right across and said "I'm crazy for you"
He held my hand tight while the radio played And I prayed
in my heart that the morning stayed late.
The alley was glowing in a pink haze I was lost in
a sweet, dreamy bowling-lane daze He lined up my shot,
put his hand over mine And whispered real soft that I was
doing just fine With his jet-black hair falling right in his face
I was falling in love in a 10-pin place.
Oh, but the sun came creeping in and stole you right away
Turned my midnight miracle into a cloudy day I reached across the
bedsheets just to find an empty space No black hair on my
pillow, no blue eyes on your face Yeah,
you held my heart so tenderly and loved me like a queen
Now I’m wide awake and crying...
'cause it was only,
just a dream.
The headlights caught the front porch,
casting shadows on the floor I didn't want the night to end
or walk through my front door He pulled me close against his
chest and softly brushed my hair Looking at me with those ocean
eyes like no one else was there He touched his lips to
mine real soft, a picture drawn in gold Right before the morning
light came turning everything so cold.
He said, "You’re sweeter than the honey on a summer bumblebee And
I can’t believe a girl like you is sitting next to
me" He swore he’d hold me tight and never let me walk
alone And said I was the prettiest thing he’d
ever called
his own An old Hank Williams ballad was playing soft and low
The pedal steel was weeping while the dashboard put on a show
Every sad old country tune
felt like a brand new song 'Cause I was right where I
belonged
before the night was gone.
I'm hugging on my pillow,
crying till my eyes are red Wishing I could sleep forever just
to stay inside my head
It felt so real,
your tender touch, the blue light in your eyes
(ohhh) Now I’m stuck here in reality,
dealing with the lies I need you more than anything,
but
dreams are all I had
When you're a thousand miles away in Hollywood,
my dear, it hurts so bad!
They say that time heals all things...
I don't know if this one's ever gonna fade...
I wanted you, but instead,
it was only...
Just a dream.
