I remember December taking forever
The days were so long when I was young
We'd stare at the calendar every morning Counting down to the night
that never seemed to come
School let out and the whole world slowed down Snow piled up
beside the street There was nowhere else we needed to be And
Christmas had a thousand hours to reach
Now the years go by like pages And December's gone before I
know
Sometimes I wish I could remember
How we made the whole world move so slow
Christmas used to last forever
Or maybe time just moved that way
We had all the time in the world For every little thing
that made the day
Christmas used to last forever We never wanted it to end Maybe
growing older means Learning how to feel it all again (feel it
all again)
I remember sleeping on the sofa
Just to hear somebody moving downstairs
The lights on the tree were still glowing And nobody cared if
they woke us there
Mom would tell us,
"Go back to bed now"
We'd whisper underneath the door
And somehow five minutes felt like an hour
And an hour felt like something more
Now I'm checking clocks and calendars Trying to fit December in But
every now and then I stop And hear that old kid laughing
again (laughing
again)
Maybe Christmas didn't get smaller Maybe we just started running fast Maybe
all those endless mornings Were never meant to last
Maybe that's why we remember Every hallway,
every room
Because when we were young A Christmas day could hold a whole
lifetime in it
Christmas used to last forever
And I can almost feel it now
There's a little kid inside me Still looking at the clock somehow
Christmas used to last forever Maybe it still can now and then
If we put the whole world down awhile And let December in
again
So leave the lights on a little longer
Let the old songs fill the room
Don't worry about tomorrow yet We've got tonight to make it last
