I used to think that peace was a place Somewhere far away,

a distant face But the mirror shows me where it starts A

tiny flame inside my heart They say that peace is a choice

we make But some are trapped for safety's sake

The hardest part is walking out the door When fear has chained

you to the floor So I won't look away,

I'll hold the light

Peace begins with me—I'll help her fight

a brand new start

I take the BFF pledge today Nonviolent words,

nonviolent ways Respect my body,

protect the earth

And it spreads from me to you

I walked through shelters,

saw the tears Heard the silence of the years A mother's hand,

a child's prayer

Hope still blooming everywhere

In a room where beauty mends I saw the future start again

She's not to blame for the walls she's in Trauma and terror

underneath the skin

You can't just run when you're under control It takes a village

to make her whole So I will be a hand,

a bridge, a friend Peace begins with me until the end

They say peace is a dream,

but I seen it in the dark When a stranger held my

hand and said you're not falling apart It ain't a banner,

it ain't a stage,

it ain't a million likes It's the choice to not strike back

when you're bleeding inside It's respect for the body,

every shape, every skin It's the earth in our hands,

not a thing we can win We got freedom to choose,

but some are fighting to breathe If peace starts in my heart,

then my heart's gonna lead

We have the freedom to choose a better way

But some are fighting just to see the day We will not

judge the ones who cannot run

We'll bring the peace until the battle's won

I pledge to be nonviolent
