I hear the shadows whispering,
with terror all around,
As dark conspiracies arise and plot to bring me down.
They scheme to take my very breath and trap me in the
night,
But I will trust in You,
my Lord, my God,
my Saving Light.
How great the goodness You have stored for those who fear Your
Name,
Bestowed before the eyes of men,
a shield against our shame.
Within Your secret presence,
Lord, You hide us from their spite,
Safe from the wars of human tongues and plots that walk the
night.
My times are held within Your Hands,
securely in Your care,
Deliver me from chasing foes and traps they would prepare.
Oh, let Your Face shine down with grace upon Your servant here,
And save me in Your steadfast love,
dispelling all my fear.
Praise be to God who showed His love,
a wonder to behold,
When I was trapped inside a town,
where heavy sieges rolled.
In sudden panic I exclaimed,
āIām cut off from Your Eyes!ā Yet when I cried aloud for
grace, You heard my desperate sighs.
Let me not fall to bitter shame,
for I have cried to You,
But let the wicked match the grave,
in silence and rue.
May lying lips be locked in death that spoke with cruel pride,
Arrogant words against the just,
whose tears they would deride.
Oh, love the Lord,
all faithful saints, who walk His holy way,
He keeps the true,
but pays the proud their heavy
debts today.
Be strong and let your hearts revive,
with courage to endure,
All you who hope upon the Lord,
whose promises are sure.
