Sharing my true story... (hmmmm)

I was lost and hopeless at a young age For years I

lived a life of drugs

Abusive relationships, domestic violence

I blamed myself for

so much of it

But the truth is...

I was surviving abuse

Trauma bonding held me captive

My two young children and me,

homeless Living in a tent

That was my life before I finally found A safe shelter

When I called Child Protective Services on myself

And even they couldn't help

I knew I had to act fast

If I can do this,

YOU can too

After feeling hopeless, homeless,

helpless There's a way through

(oh yeah, you can make it)

While I was there,

I met VL

At a "BFF Day of Beauty" event

She and her team did our hair and makeup

Gifted us clothes, professional photo shoot wow

Made us feel brand new

After that Day of Beauty,

I went to school

Got a good job as a medical assistant

Got married with a good man,

had a son

Now we got our own home

If I can do this,

YOU can too

After feeling hopeless, homeless,

helpless There's a way through

(there's a way through)

And in 2006,

I made a vow "I pledge to be nonviolent,

Respect my body,

and protect the earth."

I never looked back.
