"Well, now...
this looks expensive."
She walked in wearing midnight blue,
Ordered black coffee at a quarter past two.
I said, "Darling, can I buy you a drink?" She said,
"You can buy yourself some time to think." I pulled up a
chair, she raised one brow,
Said, "Mr. King, what brings you here now?" I said,
"A little luck and a little charm." She said,
"Keep both hands where I can see your arms."
She knew my name before I spoke,
Knew every line before the joke.
I said, "You're trouble,
I can tell." She said,
"Then why are you smiling so well?"
Velvet and vice,
Sugar with a little spice,
She's got a way of saying no
That makes me wanna ask her twice.
Cool as a queen,
Sharp as a switchblade smile,
Velvet and vice— She's gonna keep me guessing for a while.
She
said, "I've heard about your fame,
How every girl remembers your name." I said,
"Now, honey,
that ain't all true."
She said, "Funny, I never mentioned you."
I tried to dance,
she
took the lead, Had me moving at a different speed.
She said,
"You always this sure of yourself?" I said,
"Not since you walked in,
if that helps."
She laughed and set her coffee down,
Said, "You're the funniest man in town." I said,
"Is that a compliment,
dear?"
She said, "I'll let you know this time next year."
Velvet and vice,
Sugar with a little spice,
She's got a way of saying no
That makes me wanna ask her twice.
Cool as a queen,
Sharp as a switchblade smile,
Velvet and vice— She's gonna keep me guessing for a while.
Now, I could walk away,
Pretend I never cared,
But
there's an empty seat beside her,
And she knows I'm standing there.
She said, "Jesse, here's the truth,
You ain't nearly as slick as you think." I said,
"Well, darling, neither are you." She said,
"Then buy me another drink."
Velvet and vice, Lord,
she's got me thinking twice,
I came in looking for a little fun,
Now I'm taking her advice!
Cool as a queen,
And I'm losing every trial,
Velvet and vice— But I'd lose again to see that smile!
"Now, somebody remind me...
who was flirting with who?"
