I'm writing down

these simple lines

Just a few heartfelt words meant for you

Back when us kids were small and in need

You arrived with lightning speed

You guided us

and taught us right

So that we

too may walk in the light

Now all of us

are mostly grown

Some with little kids of our own (hmm)

we kids just wish to say

for that gray hair or two

Through scraped-up knees and restless nights
