Fading Pages

I wanted someone to call Dad,

Somewhere I could call my

home.

Instead, I got an angry man

And four walls that felt like stone.

Now you have a brand-new family,

Two little girls and a boy.

And even though I love them,

They get the life I once begged for.

They got a dad,

I got a father,

And I still don’t know the difference.

I spent my whole life asking you

For something you give them without thinking.

You play with them,

laugh with them,

Take them out and make them smile.

While I’m still here,

crying for help,

Wondering why it took this long.

They got a dad,

And I just wanted to be loved.

I wanted you to see your daughter

And think she

was enough.

There were nights of constant yelling,

Doors slammed hard enough to shake.

I’d lie awake and wonder

If you’d even come back home.

I love those kids.

I love her too.

But I hate that they get what I begged for

from you.
