Pumpkin slips under the wooden gate
The sun goes down,
she cannot wait
Her coat is orange in the twilight air
With a twitch of her nose and no other care (soft purr)
She scales the brick and the ivy wall
No tree too high,
she will not fall
An orange shadow on a midnight lawn
She owns the grass until the dawn (meow)
Oh,
Pumpkin, past the garden wall
Listening close to the cricket's call
Running free where the wild things creep While the rest of the
neighborhood is fast asleep
She chases moths in the silver glow
Quiet paws where the bluebells grow
Outside the fence, a world so wide No kitchen hearth can keep
her inside (mhm-mmm)
Midnight turns to the early grey
The stars start to fade away But the hunt isn't over yet
One last pounce in the dewdrop wet
Oh,
Pumpkin, past the garden wall
Listening close to the cricket's call
Running free where the wild things creep While the rest of the
neighborhood is fast asleep
Back through the latch before they wake
One little stretch, a morning shake
Curl in the sun on the kitchen floor
Until the night comes back once more (purr)
