Waiting again Living room couch
(Popcorn
bag crinkles)
Mom invited everyone over again Crowded hallway,
nowhere to sit Stomach turning on the green carpet
Got my popcorn, slipping out the back screen
White sneakers scuffing the pavement Walking away to the Tommy matinee
(Gotta get out of
here)
Crowded kitchen,
heavy chatter loud
Looking for an exit through the noisy crowd
Butter on my fingers,
tickets in my hand
Heading down the avenue according to the plan
Too many people in my mother's front room!
(No room to breathe!) Grab the popcorn,
make an escape soon Out on the sidewalk,
marching on my own Going to the movie,
leave me alone!
White shoes squeak down the theater aisle
Finally breathing after mile after mile
Silver screen lights up the dark theater floor
Far away from the company banging on the door Just me and
the bucket and the cinema glow
Watching Tommy on the screen putting on a show
Pinball wizard on the 35mm
reel Better than the commotion that I had to feel No small
talk, no strangers on the floor (Ahhhh)
Too many people in my mother's front room!
(No room
to
breathe!) Grab the popcorn,
make an escape soon Out on the sidewalk,
marching on my own Going to the movie,
leave me alone!
Saved by the cinema
(Crunch crunch)
White walk,
big screen
Goodnight, mom
