MALE: Eight miles out and the road gets mean— CHOIR: STILL WALK
CLEAN.
MALE: Whole damn block wanna know
who came— CHOIR: REMEMBER THE NAME.
MALE: Yeah. MALE: Streetlights blink like they know my car,
cold-ass night but I came this far.
CHOIR: TOO DAMN FAR.
MALE: I don't talk tough,
that's amateur shit, real ones don't announce when they're built for it.
MALE: Everybody got a mouth when the room feels safe—
MALE: then the drums hit hard and they change that face.
CHOIR: CHANGE THAT FACE.
MALE: Came through broke with the tank on E,
now the whole damn city's got eyes on me.
MALE: Good. MALE: Let 'em look.
CHOIR: How far you going?
MALE: Till the road runs out.
CHOIR: What if they know you?
MALE: Then they
know me now. CHOIR: What if they want you to turn
around? MALE: Get comfortable waiting.
CHOIR: EIGHT MILES OUT!
EIGHT MILES OUT! MALE: Windows down when I ride through town.
CHOIR: NO WAY BACK!
NO WAY DOWN! MALE: Came this far,
I ain't turning around.
CHOIR: EIGHT MILES OUT!
MALE: And I'm still headed in.
MALE: Used to count dollars at the gasoline light,
now I count exits disappearing at night.
MALE: Everybody loves your climb,
long as you don't climb higher than mine.
CHOIR: HIGHER THAN MINE.
MALE: Everybody says "good luck" with a beautiful face,
then watches real close hoping you lose your place.
MALE: That's cool. MALE: I don't need that seat.
Built my own damn table,
put it right in the street.
CHOIR: RIGHT IN THE STREET!
CHOIR: How far you going?
MALE: Till the road runs out.
CHOIR: What if they hate you?
MALE: They can hate me loud.
CHOIR: What if they tell you to turn around?
MALE: Keep yelling. Can't hear 'em now.
CHOIR:
EIGHT MILES OUT! EIGHT MILES OUT!
MALE: Windows down when I ride through town.
CHOIR: NO WAY BACK!
NO WAY DOWN! MALE: Came this far,
I ain't turning around.
CHOIR: EIGHT MILES OUT!
MALE: And I'm still headed in.
MALE: You hear that?
CHOIR: WE HEAR IT.
MALE: You scared? CHOIR: NOT NEAR IT.
MALE: Then ride.
CHOIR: EIGHT MILES OUT!
EIGHT MILES OUT! MALE: Windows down when I ride through town.
CHOIR: NO WAY BACK!
NO WAY DOWN! MALE: Came this far,
I ain't turning around.
CHOIR: EIGHT MILES OUT!
MALE: Still headed in.
