Oh my gosh.
I found my old songwriting notebook.
Wow.
My handwriting was terrible. (hahaha)
...But I had some pretty big dreams.
There’s a little pink notebook In a drawer beside my bed
Full of half-finished love songs And the things I never said
There’s a picture on the mirror
Of a girl with crooked bangs
Holding up a hairbrush microphone Like the whole wide world could hear
her sing
She didn’t know the road ahead
Or how the story would unfold
But she believed in something Even when nobody told her so I’m
still that girl
With a song inside her chest Still making little wishes Still trying
to do her best
I’ve seen a bigger world Than I ever thought I’d see
But the girl who dreamed of getting here Is still a part
of me
Through every twist and turn
And everything I’ve learned I’m still that girl
I remember singing way too loud Till the neighbors knocked at eight
And writing down my future autograph Before I had a single fan
to thank
I wore sunglasses in the kitchen
Practiced interviews alone
Told my mom I’d be a superstar She said,
“Great, now put your laundry home!” (hehe)
And some of those dreams came true
In ways I couldn’t plan
But I still call my mother When I don’t know who I
am
I’m still that girl
With a song inside her chest Still making little wishes Still trying
to do her best
I’ve seen a bigger world Than I ever thought I’d see
But the girl who dreamed of getting here Is still a part
of me
Through every twist and turn
And everything I’ve learned I’m still that girl
If I could sit beside her
On that old bedroom floor
I’d tell her there’s a thousand things She hasn’t dreamed of yet
in store
I’d tell her she’ll make mistakes And laugh at all the wrong
times And some days she’ll feel smaller
Under all those bigger lights
But don’t you change that funny laugh Or the way you care
too much
The world might learn your name someday But that’s not what makes
you enough
I’M STILL THAT GIRL
With a song inside her chest Still making little wishes Still trying
to do her best
I’ve seen a bigger world Than I ever thought I’d see
But the girl who dreamed of getting here Is still a part
of me
And if the lights go
down And the whole world turns away
I’ll still have all these songs to sing And a reason to
sing them anyway Through every twist and turn
And everything I’ve learned I’m still that girl Still that girl
With a hairbrush in her hand Still believing
In the things she barely understands
Hey, little me…
We did okay.
