Step out of the flat..and the city is a dead zone Midnight
suffocating under a lead dome Black sky braying rain down on the
cobblestone Walking blind through the streets I used to own No signal.
No bars on the mobile Just a freezing wet wind off the
Floating Harbour Climbing up through the shadow of Kingsdown The silence is
heavy, the whole of the town drowned And mind how you said..that
nothing could stay?
The blackout is back,
and it’s stripping you away.
A brilliant light ..then the sky goes ghost
Leaving me twitching at a phantom lamp post.
Up Blackboy Hill and the fog is a thick wall Clutching a
memory I don’t want to recall Then the clouds crack open like
a fracture in bone A blinding strobe hitting the concrete zone.
A lightning blade rips right through the city’s heart illuminates the Avon,
tears the dark apart.
For a fraction of a second,
the landscape is exposed Brunel’s old suspension bridge,
stark and imposed.
An old iron ghost hanging in the silver strobe light Gert big
thing, hyper visible and bright
Catching your face..
in the flash of the stream
You were just like the lightning,
babe, a violent spark Blinding my eyes,
re-wiring the dark You showed me a universe..brilliant and clean
For less than a second..then wiped it from the screen..
And mind how you said..that nothing could stay?
The blackout is back,
and it’s stripping you away.
A brilliant light
..then the sky goes ghost
Leaving me twitching at a phantom lamp post.
The thunder don’t roll here,
it drops like a bomb Shaking the foundations of the streets we
walk on
You were the beautiful,
blinding, temporary lie
The flash showed me everything
..I never could keep Then the fuse blows out..in a dead-drop sky.
Yeah doll,
the dark is right back,
the joke’s on me
Grope through the mud,
by the harbourside, see?
You’re freezing and invisible just like the stream The truth was temporary.
The black out is clinical.
One half second of absolute sight
Then my old Bristol chokes out the light
