Everybody’s in the living room The paper’s everywhere Daddy’s got his feet
kicked up And Uncle Ray’s in his chair
The children found
their presents And somebody’s lost a shoe But if
you’re looking for my
mama
There’s only
one place she could be,
too
Mom’s in the kitchen again
She’s been there since half past ten
While everybody’s laughing She’s making sure we’re fed
She says, “Don’t worry about me”
But we know just where she’ll be
Mom’s in the kitchen again Making Christmas for her friends
There’s a pie cooling by the window
There’s a ham upon the stove
She’s got three things in the oven
And somehow still knows where they go I said,
“Mama,
come sit with us”
She said, “Just give me five more minutes”
Well, that was twenty minutes ago And she’s still right there in
it
Mom’s in the kitchen again
She’s been there since half past ten
While everybody’s laughing She’s making sure we’re fed
She says, “Don’t worry about me”
But we know just where she’ll be
Mom’s in the kitchen again Making Christmas for her friends
One day we’ll remember
The sound of that old kitchen door The smell of something baking
And her footsteps across the floor We thought she was just cooking
But now I think we understand She was putting love on every
plate With both her heart and hands
So somebody go and get her
Tell her dinner can wait
Bring her out here by the Christmas tree Before it gets too
late
She’ll probably say, “I’m coming”
Then disappear again
‘Cause that’s just how Christmas works When Mom’s in the kitchen again
Mom’s in the kitchen again
She’s been there since half past ten
But now we’re going in there And we’re bringing her back in
The pie can wait a minute
The dishes can wait too
Christmas isn’t Christmas Till we’re all together in the room
Mom’s in the kitchen again
And we’re all going in
Moms in the kitchen again
Come on, everybody, bring her in!
(We love you, Mama!)
