Rise, My God And Lord (Psalm 35)

I trip in the dust,

Shadows swarm in sudden glee,

Whispers never sleep.

Grinning like the wild,

Teeth that snap upon the air,

Cruel mockings ring.

How long do You watch?

Save my soul from roaring beasts,

Pull me from their jaws.

In the crowd I stand,

Lifting high a grateful song,

Praising You aloud.

Enemies look on,

Hating me for no good cause,

Winking in the dark.

Peace is cast aside,

Quiet hearts are torn apart By a web of lies.

May their triumph fade,

Clothed in shame and deep disgrace,

All who mock my tears.

Lord, You see it all;

Do not stay so far away,

Do not silent be.

“Aha!” ring their cries,

With our eyes we saw him fall,

Mocking at my pain.

“Yes, just what we dreamed,” Wishing they could swallow me,

Hungry for my fall.

Wake and take Your stand,

Fight the battle for my sake,

Rise, my God and Lord.

Judge me as You are,

In Your righteousness and truth,

Let them never gloat.

“Yes, just what we dreamed,” Wishing they could swallow me,

Hungry for my fall.

(mmmmm) May their triumph fade,

Clothed in shame and deep disgrace,

All who mock my tears.

Let the faithful shout,

Glad for how You rescued me,

“Exalted be God!” Tongue shall speak Your truth,

Sing of all Your righteousness,

Praise You through the day. (hummmm)
