King Of Broken Smiles
Yeah…
They all see the smile…
They don’t see what’s underneath… (Underneath… underneath…) Heart broke… still he walks
like a king.
He walks in the room,
everybody knows his name,
Fresh white shoes, black hoodie,
never changed, Laughs with the boys like he’s got no pain,
But when he gets home,
he don’t feel the same.
Phone on silent, but he checks it anyway,
Hoping for a message that’ll never come today,
Says, “I’m doing good,” when they ask if he’s okay,
Then stares at the ceiling till the night turns grey.
He’s got the style,
got the confidence, got the look,
But nobody knows how much his heart got took,
She left him cold,
now he’s writing in a book,
Turning every heartbreak into another hook.
(He’s alright…) That’s what he says when he’s falling apart,
(He’s alright…) But you can see the cracks inside his heart.
He keeps it cool…
Even when it gets too hard.
He’s the coolest lad around,
but his heart’s on the floor,
Everybody wants him, but he don’t want no more,
Got a smile on his face while he’s fighting a war,
Yeah, he looks like a king but he’s hurting for sure.
Coolest lad around — yeah,
they all know his name,
Heartbreak in his chest but he still brings the flame,
They see the drip,
they see the shine,
they don’t see the pain,
He’s the coolest lad around… but he’s broken the same.
(Coolest lad around…)
(Still broken…)
(They don’t know…)
(They don’t know…) New trainers,
new clothes, new vibe,
new phase, Still got memories he can’t erase,
Says he moved on,
but it’s written on his face,
Every love song takes him back to that place.
He could have ten girls telling him he’s the one,
But he’s still thinking about the girl he lost once,
Friends say, “Forget her,
bro, go have some fun,” He says,
“Yeah, maybe,” but his heart says,
“Run.” He’s everybody’s favourite when he steps outside,
Always making jokes, always keeping the vibe,
But when the music stops and he’s alone at night,
That confident lad starts losing the fight.
Maybe one day he’ll love again,
Maybe one day he’ll trust again,
Maybe all these scars will mend,
But tonight…
He puts his headphones on,
Walks through the city
alone, Everybody thinks he’s got it made,
Nobody knows he’s trying to find his way home.
He’s the coolest lad around,
but his heart’s on the floor,
Everybody wants him, but he don’t want no more,
Got a smile on his face while he’s fighting a war,
Yeah, he looks like a king but he’s hurting for sure.
Coolest lad around — yeah,
they all know his name,
Heartbreak in his chest but he still brings the flame,
They see the drip,
they see the shine,
they don’t see the pain,
He’s the coolest lad around… but he’s broken the same.
(He’s alright…)
No, he ain’t… (He’s alright…)
Maybe someday… Coolest lad around…
With a broken heart…
Still standing.
