East Coast Hustle
They thought the storm would break her.
They didn't know the storm was building her.
Some make it out
and forget.
Others turn around and reach back.
Lady Legacy.
Mama working doubles, babies waiting at the door,
Trying to stretch a little money when there ain't no more.
Little boy needs his father,
got questions in his eyes,
Looking for somebody strong who ain't feeding him lies.
Empty fridge, cold nights,
everybody feeling pain, But that mother gets up and does it all
again.
If you made it to the top,
don't just celebrate that,
Turn around, reach down,
bring somebody back.
LADY LEGACY!
She don't run from the storm!
LADY LEGACY!
She was built to transform!
One hand reaching back,
whole family can rise,
Put a book in a child's hands,
let 'em see another life!
Streets'll eat you alive,
they don't care about your name,
They'll take a little child and introduce 'em to the game.
Hunger pains in the belly,
bills sitting on the floor,
Somebody offering quick money when you can't take no more.
Selling to your neighbor,
knowing they got babies too,
But your own kids are hungry,
what you supposed to do?
Ain't calling wrong right,
ain't saying pain's a pass,
I'm saying desperation makes the choices come fast.
I remember what a book could do inside my mind,
Open up another world,
leave the hurt behind.
Might've only been a minute,
might've only been a page,
But for that little moment I could step outside the cage.
Every story was a doorway,
every chapter was a key,
Showing me a bigger world than the one surrounding me.
Why make it out and leave the next one standing in the
rain? Reach back with a hand and help somebody break the chain.
