A song about my dog Sadie

Deep in the corners where the shadows bloom

A tiny heartbeat in a hollow room

You curl your body like a velvet sigh

Under the weight of a leaden sky

Your coat is midnight,

darker than the coal

A soft obsidian that wraps your soul

But in the silence of the falling rain

I see the flicker of a hidden pain

Oh,

little shadow with the weeping eyes Under the rhythm of the breakbeat

skies Four white paws on the cold dark floor Waiting for a

light that isn't here no more Soft black fur like a starless

night Searching for a ghost of the morning light

I watch the motion of your heavy breath

A slow descent into a quiet depth Those tiny feet,

they carry drops of snow

Four white markers where the spirits go

You look at me with such a heavy gaze Lost in the

static of these lonely days The bass is thumping like a distant

drum

Waiting for the happiness that doesn't come

Oh, little shadow with the weeping eyes Under the rhythm of the

breakbeat skies Four white paws on the cold dark floor Waiting for

a light that isn't here no more Soft black fur like a

starless night Searching for a ghost of the morning light

Soft to the touch but heavy to the heart

Watching the world as it falls apart

White tipped toes in the charcoal dust Broken fragments of a puppy's

trust The snares are snapping in the hollow dark Waiting for the

echo of a silent bark

Oh,

little shadow with the weeping eyes Under the rhythm of the breakbeat

skies

Four white paws on the cold dark floor Waiting for a light

that isn't here no more Soft black fur like a starless night

Searching for a ghost of the morning light

Little white paws in the dark

Little white paws in the dark

Soft

black

coat

Sad little eyes
