    break free

    Amy A

    Every morning, seven o’clock,

She stands there by the mirror,

    Fixing up her hair again,

    Wishing she could disappear.

She puts a little makeup on,

Tries to make herself feel strong,

But underneath the smile she wears,

She wonders what she’s doing wrong.

Her old friends walk right past her,

Whisper things that make her small,

And every word they throw at her Makes her question it all.

    She thought she wasn’t enough,

Thought she had to change somehow,

    Thought if she looked different,

Maybe they would like her now.

But she’s more than what they say,

    More than what they see,

She doesn’t have to be someone else To deserve to simply be.

And maybe she can’t see it yet,

But someday she’ll know the truth— She was always more than enough.

She walks through every hallway Trying not to hear their names,

Trying not to let their laughter Make her feel ashamed.

She used to think that every day She had something left to

    prove, But little by little,

she begins To find her own way through.

Because the mirror never told her What her heart was worth inside,

And the people who tried to break her Never got to decide.

    She thought she wasn’t enough,

Thought she had to change somehow,

    Thought if she looked different,

Maybe they would like her now.

But she’s more than what they say,

    More than what they see,

She doesn’t have to be someone else To deserve to simply be.

And maybe she can’t see it yet,

But someday she’ll know the truth— She was always more than enough.

One day she’ll look back and realize She survived every word they

said. She’ll remember all those mornings When she wanted to hide instead.

    And she’ll finally understand

What she couldn’t understand back then: Being herself was never something

    She needed to defend.

    She was always enough,

    Even when she couldn’t see,

    Even when those voices tried

To tell her who to be.

    She doesn’t need their approval,

She doesn’t need to prove a thing.

She can walk into tomorrow With the freedom it can bring.

And maybe she’ll still have hard days,

But she’ll know the truth— She was always,

    always

    More than enough.

So she looks into the mirror

And doesn't ask, “Am I enough?”

    She simply smiles and whispers,

“I am more than what they

    said I was.”
