Seventh grade started with a hallway full of friends,
I thought those friendships would never have to end.
We laughed, we talked,
we thought we’d always stay,
But they let me go
so easily one day.
Like I was nothing,
like I didn’t matter,
Their words got louder,
but my heart got quieter.
And I kept asking myself through the tears,
“Were they really my friends all these years?”
If they could leave me at the snap of their fingers,
Maybe they weren’t meant to stay.
Maybe losing them was something That I needed anyway.
Now I’m walking into Grade 8,
And I’m not looking back.
They can say what they wanna say,
I’m done letting that hurt me like that.
They can swear, they can curse,
They can talk behind my back,
But I’ve learned who really matters,
And I don’t care about that.
At the snap of their fingers,
They let me go…
Now I’m letting them go too.
I used to wonder what I did wrong,
Why they suddenly changed their minds.
I thought maybe I wasn’t enough,
But now I know I was just wasting time.
Real friends don’t disappear
The second things get hard.
They don’t make you feel unwanted,
They don’t tear you apart.
So if they want to talk about me,
Let them say whatever they choose.
I’ve got better things to think about,
And nothing left to lose.
Maybe losing them was painful,
Maybe I cried more than they knew.
But sometimes losing people Shows you what is really true.
I don’t need their approval,
I don’t need them by my side.
I’ve got a brand-new year ahead,
And I’m ready for the ride.
Now I’m walking into Grade
8, With my head held up high.
They can say whatever they want,
I’m not gonna waste my time.
They can swear, they can curse,
But their words don’t control me.
I know who I am now,
And I’m finally free.
At the snap of their fingers,
They let me go…
And now I’m letting go.
Seventh grade taught me something I’ll never forget:
Not everyone you call a friend Is someone you should regret.
So here’s to Grade 8,
And everything I’ll know— They let me go at their fingertips,
And I learned to let them go.
