All my years have been for work,
Can't I catch a break?
Every door I lean against,
has another lock in place.
One October night,
rain was falling.
I kept staring at my feet,
They are walkin'.
Thinking ’bout those years behind me,
Replaying through my memories.
Wondering, where did I go wrong?
What has happened to me?
Underneath
an Old Growth Tree,
I saw a man.
Soaked through his clothes,
and curled up small.
For a second I thought,
Stop.
I didn’t stop at all.
I pulled my collar tighter Skiffed the rock,
and left him, in the rain.
It was three blocks down,
When I heard the tires
scream my name.
I closed my eyes.
Cold water in my hands.
I braced for something,
That something never came.
Rain on my coat,
pouring down. I then took a breath.
Then I realized,
that car was coming for me.
On down the way,
three blocks back Crashed into the Old Growth Tree,
a Classic Cadillac.
Fear grew in me,
It was the tree
I didn’t know what to believe.
That car was meant for me!
How can this be?
An old cold man is finished
in the street.
I turned to walk away When I saw what I can't believe
today. Through the glass,
Shining on an alter,
a beacon of hope.
I didn’t know what I was seeing.
Only knew I had to stare.
Then someone in the second pew,
turned slowly into my stare
He looked right up at me.
His face, I began to see.
It was the same old man
curled up,
beneath the tree.
His eyes pierced mine,
As he was looking back,
at me.
All my life, I’d called it mine— Those rags to riches,
and back.
My
family
life, my comfort, and my pain...
Who's whispering my name in this cold,
dark
rain? I straightened up,
found my feet beneath me.
I walked through that Chapel door Didn’t know
what to say.
I fell down on my knees.
Let my scars wash away.
My work. My will.
My fear.
My life.
Jesus… You saved
me. Jesus... Transubstantiate me.
