The sun falls off the kitchen wall A little lower every day
I watch it leave the window frame And count the minutes till
it fades I pull the curtains halfway closed Before there's anything to
see
I know it's just the evening
But it gets ahead of me
One last line across the floor
Then it isn't there anymore
I'm running out of daylight It's leaving through the blinds
I turn on every lamp But I can't make it stay
When every window goes black This house forgets my name
I'm running out of daylight And night is on its way
The hallway has the same old shape
The same doors on either side But I keep looking down its
length For something trying to hide I leave the television on To
put a voice into the room
It goes quiet for a second
And I feel the dark come through
I tell myself I know these walls
Then the last light goes,
and I don't
I'm running out of daylight It's leaving through the blinds
I turn on every lamp But I can't make it stay
When every window goes black This house forgets my name
I'm running out of daylight And night is on its way
I know what every shadow is A coat,
a chair, an open door
I've stood here in the morning
And been certain once before
But the room keeps getting deeper
As the little light withdraws
I reach out for the switch
With my back against the wall
I'm running out of daylight It's leaving through the blinds
I turn on every lamp But I can't make it stay
When every window goes black This house forgets my name
I'm running out of daylight And night is on its way
