I love you, O Lord,
for my strength,
You go with me the whole day and length.
A Fortress and Rock,
A Shield from the shock,
You save me at length.
When cords of the grave bound me tight,
And torrents of death blocked my light,
I cried to the Lord,
Who answered my word,
And turned all my dark into bright.
The earth then did tremble and shake,
The mountains began all to quake.
With smoke from His nose,
He scattered my foes,
And came down for my rescue’s sake.
He soared on the wings of the wind,
With storm clouds where darkness is pinned.
His Voice thundered loud,
From high in the cloud,
Where justice and mercy are skinned.
He shot out His Lightning like fire,
And quieted all of my ire.
From deep waters rolled,
He took hold and consoled,
And lifted me up ever higher.
He brought me to places so wide,
Where safety and goodness abide.
According to hands That follow His plans,
The Lord is my Helper and Guide.
To faithful, He shows Himself true,
And guides what the blameless can do,
He humbles the proud,
Above every crowd, And powers me right through the crew.
For who is the God of the skies?
Who answers the prayer and the cries?
The Rock is the Lord,
With truth as His sword,
Who raises me up as I rise.
He makes my feet swift as the deer,
And drives out all panic and fear.
He trains me for fight,
With arms of great might,
And shows that His mercy is near.
I chased down the foes in my path,
And swept them away in my wrath.
They cried out for aid,
Where nobody stayed, Consigned to destruction and scath.
You made me the head of the land,
Established by Your Mighty Hand.
Foreigners bow, Obeying right now,
At strict and invincible command.
The Lord lives, my Rock and my Shield,
To whom every nation must yield!
To David’s great line,
With mercy Divine, His unfailing love is revealed.
