Brave Words

We used to laugh and play all day,

But now you throw mean words my way.

You push me down and walk away,

And I don't know just what to say.

My tummy hurts, I look around,

I stare right down at the quiet ground.

I want to speak,

I want to shout,

But not a single word comes out.

It's hard to tell a teacher or a friend,

I just want the mean words to end.

I hide my face,

I hide my fear,

And wish the bad feelings would disappear.

But holding it in just makes me sad,

And treating me mean is really bad

I deserve to feel safe and fine,

It's time to draw a big strong line.

Taking a breath, I feel the spark,

A little light inside the dark.

I am brave,

I am strong,

I’ve been quiet for way too long!

I’m gonna tell a friend today,

I’m gonna speak up right away!

No more fear, no more hide,

I’ve got the courage deep inside!

I can do

it, yes I can,

I'm sticking to

my brand new plan.

I'll find a grown-up,

take a stride,

And walk ahead with power and pride!
