Still Becoming

I was just a kid with a dream in my head,

Trying to figure out the road up ahead.

Mama taught me how to fight for what I love,

And life taught me sometimes that ain't enough.

I've watched some people come and some people leave,

Had to learn some things I didn't wanna believe.

I've had nights wondering what's wrong with me,

But somehow I'm still becoming who I'm meant to be.

I've been lost, I've been found,

I've been knocked to the ground.

But every time I thought I was done,

I found another reason to run.

I'm still chasing that kid's dream,

Even when it ain't as easy as it seemed.

Got a glove in my hand and a cross around my neck,

A whole lot of memories I'll never forget.

Some days I'm strong,

some days I'm barely getting through,

But I've got people in my corner who remind me what to

do. I don't know where this road's gonna lead,

But I trust I'll end up where I'm meant to be.

Four years with the same boys,

laughing in the heat,

Calling each other brothers every time we'd meet.

Then suddenly the seasons started moving too fast,

And I realized those days weren't gonna last.

Senior year knocking, graduation getting close,

Everybody asking what comes next the most.

I got a college dream sitting somewhere out there,

And I'm gonna chase it even if

I'm scared.

And if I strike out,

I'll take another swing,

If I fall down,

I'll get back on my feet.

If somebody leaves, I'll still love them from afar,

If I lose my way,

I'll remember who we are.

I don't need to know every step tonight,

I just need enough faith to keep walking toward the light.

I'm still chasing that kid's dream,

And now I'm starting to see what it means.

It was never just the game or the place I'd go,

It was every person who helped me grow.

The friends, the losses,

the laughs, the tears,

The lessons I've carried through all these years.

And wherever this road decides to lead,

I'll keep walking with faith in front of me.

So here's to the kid I used to be,

And the man I'm still becoming.

I may not know where I'm going yet,

But I know I'm not done running.

There's still dreams left to chase,

Still roads left to see…

And someday I'll understand
