Seventeen years old, just trying to get by,
Had a lot on his mind and a dream in his eyes.
They laughed at his clothes,
said he’d never be much,
Tried to tear him down every time he showed up.
He’d go home at night with his head hanging low,
Wondering if anybody knew what he knows.
But deep in his heart,
there was something they missed,
A fire burning underneath all of this.
Yeah, he rose above it,
when they pushed him down,
Kept his feet moving when they tried to make him drown.
They said he’d never make it,
said he’d never get far,
Now he’s looking back wondering who they are.
He turned every tear into fuel for the ride,
Kept chasing that dream with his head held high.
They tried to break him,
but they never knew—
Sometimes the strongest hearts are the ones that made it through.
He stopped listening to every word they said,
Started believing in the voice in his head.
Worked long hours, saved every dime,
Kept putting one foot in front of the other each time.
Years went by and the kid grew strong,
Built a life of his own and proved them wrong.
Now the ones who laughed when he walked through the door See
the man he became
and don't laugh anymore.
Yeah, he rose above it,
when they pushed him down,
Kept his feet moving when they tried to make him drown.
They said he’d never make it,
said he’d never get far,
Now he’s looking back
wondering who they are.
He turned every tear into fuel for the ride,
Kept chasing that dream with his head held high.
They tried to break him,
but they never knew—
Sometimes the strongest hearts are the ones that made it through.
He could've let the hurt become his name,
Could've let their words
keep him stuck in the same place.
But he chose forgiveness,
chose to move on,
And built something better from everything gone wrong.
Yeah, he rose above it,
now he's standing tall,
The seventeen-year-old who thought he'd lose it all.
He didn't need revenge,
didn't need to prove a thing,
He just kept working till he built his dreams.
And if those old bullies ever see him now,
They'll see a man who made himself proud.
He took every “you can't” and turned it into “I will,”
Seventeen years old—
And he's climbing still.
