You never let me finish,
and I don't really mind.
I know what you're about to say
before you get to the line.
I was telling you a story
about somebody from work.
You jumped in halfway through it
with the ending first.
I said, "Can I finish?" You said,
"I know, I know." Then you got the whole thing wrong,
and somehow made it better though. (hahaha)
Every time I start a sentence,
you come running through the door.
Maybe I should find it annoying.
I don't anymore.
Cut me off. Go on,
cut me off. Steal the
words right out of my mouth.
Talk too fast.
Get it wrong. Laugh before I get to the good part.
Cut me
off. I like you better that way.
When we're both trying to talk,
there's nothing left to hide.
You say I never listen.
I say that's not quite true.
I remember every stupid thing
you said at half past two.
You start with, "Don't be mad," and I already know.
I interrupt with, "What did you do?" You say,
"Let me finish, though."
You
say
I'm impossible. I
say, "Look who's talking."
You
try
to keep a straight face.
Then we both start laughing. (hahaha)
Cut me off. Go on,
cut me off. Steal the
words right out of my mouth.
Talk too fast.
Change the story. Say
my name when I lose my point.
Cut
me
off.
I like you better that way.
When we're both trying to talk,
I know you wanna stay.
I say, "Wait."
You say, "What?"
I say, "Nothing."
You say, "Come on."
I try again.
You lean in.
And this time,
you let me finish.
I like the way
you never leave much room for me to disappear inside my head.
You pull the words
right out of me before I can decide I never meant them.
Cut me off. Go on,
cut me off.
I was probably
taking too long. Talk too fast.
Stay too close. Say the
thing before I lose the nerve.
Cut me off. I like you better that way.
If we both start at once,
don't stop. Keep going.
You first.
No, you.
Not again.
