The Woman in the Mirror

(hummmm) There’s a photograph from seventeen

Tucked inside an old guitar case

She’s got a crooked smile

And a whole world written on her face

There’s another from the year I left

Hair longer, eyes a little tired

She thought she had to run forever

Just to prove she could get higher

I used to look at all those pictures

And wonder where I went wrong

Now I look a little closer

And see how hard she held on

She’s still there in the mirror

The girl who didn’t know the answers The woman who’s learned who

I don’t have to leave her behind

I can finally look at the woman in the mirror And know

what all of it was for

There’s a dress I wore for somebody

Who never really knew my name

There’s a ticket from a one-way flight And a letter I was

too scared to save

There are nights I wish I’d forgotten

There are people I wish I’d kept

But every road I thought had broken me

Left something worth finding yet

To the girl who ran too far

To the girl who stayed too long

To the woman who got lost

And still found her way back home

You were never something to repair

You were never something to hide

You were learning how to live
