Engine humming
Two a.m.
Town getting smaller
In the rearview again
No address No plan
Just both hands On the wheel
Streetlights flicker, then disappear
Radio low, but I barely hear
Thirty miles out and it finally hits
I really left, I really did this
Phone on silent, screen face-down
Last exit sign still named my town
Thought I'd feel lighter crossing that line
Instead I got every thought in my mind Road dead empty,
headlights cut black
Part of me wonders if I should turn back But back got
nothing I ain't already seen
Same four walls, same worn-out dreams So I keep pressing gas like
movement means change Like enough highway might rearrange my brain I wanted
freedom, now freedom feels strange When nobody knows you and nothing has
a name
No destination
Just miles ahead Whole lotta noise Still stuck in my head I
left everything I couldn't become
Now I'm chasing better Not knowing where from
Maybe there's something
Past these city lights Maybe I'm just running
From another night I don't know where I'm going But I know
where I've been
So I keep driving Again and again
Passed a diner glowing out in the rain
Almost pulled over, then missed the lane
Saw two people laughing through the glass Made me think about everything
that didn't last
Names I don't call
Things I never said
People I still argue with inside my head
Some I still love,
some I still blame
Funny how distance don't quiet a name
I keep checking mirrors like something might follow
But the road behind me stays dark and hollow
Maybe that's worse, maybe that's peace Maybe letting go don't happen clean
Every mile marker asks me the same You changing your life or
just changing the frame?
And I ain't got an answer,
not tonight Just this steering wheel and these passing lights What if
I wake up tomorrow
And nothing feels new?
What if every road I take Still leads back to you?
Back to them
Back to me
Back to everything I'm trying not to be
Maybe I don't need an answer yet
Maybe tonight
I just need distance
No destination Just miles ahead Whole lotta silence
Still loud in my head I left everything I couldn't become Now
I'm chasing better Even if better don't come
Maybe there's something
Past these city lights
Maybe all I've got Is one more night I don't know where
I'm going But I ain't turning back
Not yet
White lines
Black sky
Quarter tank
No signs
I pass another exit
Keep going
No destination
