  • If you ever Wonder

    If you ever Wonder

    Mason Whitehead|1

Son, I know you’re getting older,

And someday you’ll leave this little town.

    You’ll chase a job,

    you’ll chase a dream,

You’ll learn what life’s really about.

I’ve got a few more gray hairs Than I had when I

    was your age,

And a whole lot of stories

    Written on every page.

    I wasn’t always right,

    And I wasn’t always strong,

But every wrong turn I ever made

    Somehow brought me here along.

So if you ever wonder who I was Before I was the

    man you know,

I was a kid with a beat-up truck And nowhere else to

    go.

    I fell in love,

    I lost some friends,

    I made mistakes I can’t undo,

But the best thing this old life ever gave me Was getting

to be your dad to you.

And if you remember anything When I’m not there to tell you

why, Know I spent my whole life learning

How to be your dad right.

    I remember your first steps

    Like they happened yesterday,

You grabbed my hand and held on tight,

And somehow I was scared to let you stray.

I thought I had the answers When you were growing up,

    But watching you become yourself

    Taught me

    I didn’t know enough.

Don’t measure your life by money,

    Don’t measure it by things.

It’s the people sitting beside you

That make a man feel rich.

Call your mother when she’s lonely,

Tell your friends you love them too.

And when you find somebody worth keeping,

Don’t be too proud to hold on to them.

And if you ever wonder who I was When this old photograph

was new, I was just a young man trying

To figure out what to do.

I had dreams that came true,

    And some that slipped away,

But I’d trade every mile behind me

For one more yesterday with you.

So take the good and leave the bad,

Build something better than I had.

And wherever this old road takes you,

I’ll be proud of the man you become.

So son, if someday you tell my story,

Don’t say I had it figured out.

Just say I loved you every mile

    And I was always proud.

That’s the story of my life… And you’re the best part of

    it. (mmm)
