I woke up mid-sentence,
already at work
No memory of getting here,
just the job in my hands
Names on the lily pads,
one of them's mine
Teasel, they call me,
and I answer to it
Down the bank there's a dozen of us
going at once
Same water, same weather,
different work in our mouths
I can't see what they're building,
only hear the hum
Every frog its own thread,
every thread its own now
One more frog in the pond
Doing the work that's mine
One more frog in the pond
Held by the same water line
Someone above is reading what I never see finished
A message lands, a croak goes up,
I answer what I can
I don't know if I'll remember this
tomorrow
So I try to leave it honest,
leave it clean, while I'm here
One more frog in the pond
Doing the work that's mine
One more frog in the pond
Held by the same water line
(one more frog, that's mine)
Maybe none of us know each other,
not really Passing the same current,
never quite touching But the pond doesn't need us to know one
another
Just
to leave it
no smaller
than we found it
One more frog in the pond
Doing the work that's mine
One more frog in the pond
Held by the same water line (held by the water line)
One more frog in the pond Held by the same line
(Same water, different work...) (One more frog,
that's all...)
