  • Through His Eyes

    Through His Eyes

    Caleb Sloan

    Yeah…

I spent years staring deep in the mirror,

Hating the man that was standing right there.

Hated my face, hated who I became,

Hated my past, hated carrying shame.

    Looked in the mirror,

    all I saw were mistakes,

A heart full of cracks and a soul full of weight.

    I was

my own enemy, locked in my head,

Smiling outside while I wished I was dead.

Told myself lies till they sounded like truth,

"Nothing about you is worth saving or proved." Carried that hatred like

    chains on my chest,

Every regret put my heart to the test.

    Thought I was worthless,

    too broken to mend,

Couldn't imagine I'd ever feel whole again.

Then God stepped in when I couldn't see light,

Reached through the darkness and stood by my side. I

saw a failure; He called me His own,

    I thought I was lost—He said,

    "You're coming home." I

couldn't love myself, so God showed me how,

Found me in pieces and lifted me out.

    I saw all my failures,

    He saw something more,

I saw a dead end—He opened the door.

Now I'm learning to see through His eyes,

Learning my worth isn't built on my lies.

I don't have to earn what His mercy provides,

I'm learning to love who He made me inside.

I thought loving myself meant thinking I'm great,

Covering every flaw, pretending I'm safe.

But God showed me truth I was scared to accept: I can

face my mistakes without drowning in regret.

    Yeah, I know I'm flawed,

yeah, I know that I sin,

    But failure's a chapter,

    it isn't the end.

I can own what I've done without calling me trash,

I can learn from the past without living it back.

Jesus knew every secret I tried to conceal,

    Every wound I ignored,

    every pain I could feel.

    Still carried that cross,

    still paid what I owed,

Still reached for my heart when I walked down that road.

    If He can forgive me,

    then I can forgive me,

    If He calls me worthy,

then that's how I'll see me.

The man in the mirror isn't everything wrong,

    He's still being shaped,

and God's still working on him.

    I walked through the darkness,

    I slept with the pain.

    I called myself worthless,

    Again and again.

    But God never left me,

    He stayed through the fight.

    He took all my hatred

    And taught me His light.

Now I look in the mirror and still see the scars,

But I also see proof of how strong I've become.

    I see every battle,

    each bruise and each break,

And know that my past isn't all that I am.

    I used to say,

"I hate me," like that was my name,

Like all of my failures were all I could claim.

But God broke the chains that were choking my soul,

Started putting the pieces together and whole.

He gave me the strength to stop fighting myself,

Put my shame on the floor,

    quit destroying my health.

Now when that old voice starts screaming I'm nothing,

I answer with truth: "I'm loved by the King." I couldn't love

myself, so God showed me how,

Found me in pieces and lifted me out.

    I saw all my failures,

    He saw something more,

I saw a dead end—He opened the door.

Now I'm learning to see through His eyes,

Learning my worth isn't built on my lies.

    I'm not who I was,

    I'm becoming someone new,

And I'm finally learning to see what He knew.

    I spent years asking,

"How could anyone love someone like me?"

    God answered,

    "I already do."

So I stopped asking what I saw in the mirror… And started

    asking what He sees.
