I missed the last train home again
Sat beneath the station clock
Listening to strangers make plans
For places I forgot
Funny how a town
can change
Without moving
an inch
So I’ll take the long way home Let the highway do the
talking
There’s a version of me somewhere Who still thinks that door is
open But I’ve learned to let it close Without pretending I don’t
know
Sometimes the road gets lonely
Before it gets you home
I found your photograph today
Inside an old coat pocket
For once I didn’t turn away
I just looked at it
and stopped
I don’t miss who we were
I miss who I thought we’d be
There’s a difference between the two I’m finally learning
to see
So I’ll take the long way home
Let the highway do the talking
There’s a version of me somewhere Who still thinks that door is
open But I’ve learned to let it close Without pretending I don’t
know
Sometimes the road gets lonely
Before it gets you
home
