I told them the lock on the back door was broken.
They said it was just the wind.
But the wind doesn't leave wet footprints on the linoleum. (shhh)
I sit in the kitchen,
tea turning to ice
Counting the floorboards and checking them twice There's a scratch in the
plaster right under the frame And a voice in the hallway that's
whispering my name (who is that?) I checked every closet,
I bolted the screen But the shadow between us is somewhere unseen
It's inside the walls,
it's under the floor!
(get out!) Don't look in the mirror,
don't look at the door!
It's wearing my coat,
it's driving my car! (hahaha!)
How can I run when I don't know where we are?
Wait.
Look at the sink.
It's dripping in reverse.
Maybe my mind is a curse,
or maybe it's worse.
I saw my reflection but it didn't blink!
(what?) I think that it's plotting,
I think that it's watching,
I think that I'm losing my grip on the edge!
Running-and-running-I'm-cutting-the-wiring-blocking-the-vents-with-a-sledge! (hahaha)
It's so quiet now.
The sirens are close.
They think that I'm crazy.
They think I'm a ghost.
But I found the diary under the grate.
Written in my handwriting...
dated today. It says: "Keep him trapped in the house till he
fades." (oh...) I'm not the victim.
I'm the one who stayed.
There was never anyone else in the basement.
(laughter fades into static)
